Memory of the Letters - Videomapping concept
for the The Wall of the Oudayas

2026

While studying video mapping at Rencontres Audiovisuelles, I felt the desire to explore a new approach to developing an audiovisual film — to think on a more monumental scale. This is how the concept of The Memory of Letters was born, created for the Walls of the Kasbah of the Oudayas in Rabat.

Inspired by the art of calligraphy and the rich cultural heritage of Morocco, the project explores the origins of written forms and weaves them into contemporary expression, creating a dialogue between past and present.

Pitch

Rabat falls asleep. The light of the crescent moon settles over the city, gliding along the walls of its deserted alleyways. In this nocturnal glow, the letters awaken and come to life. They begin to whisper and reveal the stories of Morocco — those anchored in the stone and in the sand of the land.

1 ACT

Luminous lines carried by the wind sweep along the wall from left to right. Abstract mountain silhouettes appear as subtle allusions, and the lines merge into a crescent moon and stars. A beam of light reveals the title “Memory of Letters” in Arabic. Calligraphic strokes then draw the city, as the camera moves through an alley into an ancient market.

2 ACT

The market awakens in the light of the letters. Luminous silhouettes of ancient merchants appear as crowds of sellers, buyers, and carts pass by. Lines intertwine and spread across the wall, and within the swirling motion, a few solitary figures stand out.

3 ACT

Small tiles spread across the wall, assembling into three large zellige mosaics. The camera turns to reveal the façade of a mosque, its portals stretching wide. Shadows of figures from tales and myths cross the wall. The camera moves inward through the openwork gates, then emerges into a vast desert plain.

4 ACT

In the desert, luminous silhouettes of Berber tribes dance along the wall before dissolving into Amazigh symbols. Arabic and Amazigh scripts intertwine in a swirling composition as the wall comes alive. The music rises, then suddenly falls silent, and the title and credits appear in three languages.
